How to Stay True to Your Passions

See all 3 Comments

Question:

How can I be sure that my passions will continue to stay in my life as others come into my life? They may not totally agree with my passions.

Answer:

Your passions are like breadcrumbs, leading you to discover who you really are. As your life changes and you learn more about yourself, your passions will shift as well. That is why we recommend that you take The Passion Test at least every six months because each time you will discover more about yourself. As you peel back more of these layers you will find all of the natural talents and joys you have to offer to others.

However, that does not mean your passions will or should change because of what other people in your life find important. If their beliefs and their judgments determine what is really important to you, you’ll be miserable. By always choosing in favor of your passions you are not being selfish, so don’t believe people when they make that statement to you.

“When you do what is best for you, what brings you the greatest joy, then everyone wins!”

For instance, if you are yearning for something in addition to being a great mother and wife, there is a reason for it. The reason is not selfish and it does not make you a bad mother or wife. It means you can be a great supporter of others when you are living your most passionate life. As long as you strain and struggle to do the “selfless” thing, you will make yourself miserable. How do you serve those you love if you are irritable, frustrated and defensive because you’re doing what you think you “should” do, instead of what you love doing?

When you are happy and fulfilled in your own life then you will have so much more to give and it will be easy and natural to give it to the people you love and care about. As people come in and out of your life you can support their passions more authentically if you are staying true to your own.

Life is here for your joy. Following the path of what you love means letting go of your concepts of what you “should” be doing as determined by other’s beliefs. When you are able to trust that you are being led to what is best, not only for you, but for everyone else at the same time, life becomes magical.

If you are just getting started in making the commitment to follow your passions, begin by finding out where you stand right now. Invest 3 minutes to take your personal Passion Test Profile and find out how passionate you are, where you are blocked and what you need to do next. http://bit.ly/dehPJZ

Absolutely agree! It's a process, and I love the analogy of peeling back the layers because it's not a one-off thing... it's a constant adventure of discovering ourselves and what brings us closer to who we really are.

I believe that connecting to our passions, and truly expressing who we are and what sets us on fire, that's the only way to truly be considered ALIVE.

That's what the people around us - in our families, in our communities and in our circles of influence - need: people who are really living and giving of the best of themselves with passion!

Keep on sharing your phenomenal message with the world!

Hello Janet,

Your inspiration is contagious and it has touched my life in so many ways. Whenever I'm told I can't, I think of the interview you did a while back,(I remember the pointers you spoke of) and that gets me back on track. With much appreciation,

Much Mahalo for spreading the message of how connecting to our passion, our heart, constantly leads us to our joy that expands outward, and allows us to grow along with it's journey. There is great peace and freedom when we stop trying to fly against the wind and learn to soar with it! ...It is my intention to connect with as many people as possible who have made the path of passion their journey, and to spread the love and joy that is found in it's center. I look forward to meeting you along the journey...
