"What you see you become" is a saying from the ancient Vedic literature of India. Some people think it means that when I see a tree, I become a tree. Or as James Ray said on one of our interviews, when he was in college, all he thought about was busty cheerleaders, but he never became a busty cheerleader.
"What you see you become" means as you interpret the world, that is what the world becomes for you. There is that story of Jesus appearing at a modern day door and being told, "Sorry, we don't have time to talk with you, we are too busy." For many of us, our own busy-ness has become the way we "see" and relate to the world.
"What you see you become" is a statement that recognizes the world is our story about what we experience in life. The beliefs and concepts we hold as true can actually keep us from experiencing truth, or living our passions, or being on purpose. We are convinced that we are right, and as a result, we miss the very thing that will bring our life joy and fulfillment.
This is the reason "staying open" is one of the 7 key principles of living a passionate life in Chapter 7 of The Passion Test.
Anytime you find yourself taking a strong, negative view of anything in your life, it is a signal that this thing has hit up against the way you "see" the world. It is a sign that there is something here worth taking a closer look at, because your strongly held beliefs may be keeping you from "seeing" the truth.
Today's Tip for Following Your Passions: Notice when you strongly reject something as wrong, bad, or terrible. Take a closer look at what it is you are rejecting. Does that thing reflect a belief about yourself that may not serve you? If God is good and God is everything, why would you reject anything? Certainly you will have preferences, but what is there about that thing you are rejecting that touches on some part of you that is not yet healed? Practice the Expansion process (www.thepassiontest.com/fromsadtoglad) and investigate the beliefs that cause you to feel so strongly |
